Shadow's second and last litter came out just as happy and healthy as her first. However, a bad batch of vaccine, unknown to us at the time, allowed the dreaded Parvo virus to set in when they were only a few months old. I was able to save the four pups, but it was a long hard battle. Clorox got his name from the last ditch effort to save his life. Smiley and Sweetie had already pulled through and all the pups seemed to be over the hump, when suddenly Clorox took a turn for the worse. The IVs and Gatorade did their part up until then, but he had yet a second battle to fight. When all else failed, I resorted to an old home remedy that a friend told me about that her grand dad used to use. A combination of raw egg, a teaspoon of sugar and a tablespoon of Clorox bleach. After the first dose, he started showing signs of life in about two hours and the second dose seemed to do the trick. This was our first breeding with JoAnn & Don's Dogos - Jajome Kennels. The trip to Indiana was a long drive, but worth every mile. This litter was not as large as Shadow's first litter. She only raised 6 pups and we only kept 4. This litter also produced some pretty decent hunters. More photos of them as adults are on their individual pages - linked below. Also, Meet Jajome's Louie here. |
