Dogo Argentino - Big Game Hunter and Family Guardian

Rankin's Lefty of Texas

Lefty was named for his black left ear. He was initiated early into the hunting ranks and showed the grit and game of a true Dogo at a very young age. One of his first trips out into the woods he learned what a pack of Javelina was all about. He wasn't even a year old at that time, but he jumped right in when the dogs caught the first one. Since Javeline have a tendency to stick together and assist each other in times of danger, they are not something we like to encounter in the woods with catch dogs on the ground. To a Dogo, they are just another "hog" and they catch them and hold them until we get there. Lefty was still holding one when I got into the thicket and another Javeline ran at him from behind and cut him in a rather exposed and private area before I knew what happened. A couple of the other guys got there about that time and we were able to get things under control fairly quickly, but there were several Dogos requiring a suture or two.

I hunted with Lefty many times and he was a fearless warrior to say the least, but of all the hunts I was on with him, it's his first that I remember the most. I don't remember if I even had a camera with me that night and even if I did, I would not likely have had time take any photos. I was to worried about getting the Dogos out of there in one piece.
