Lefty was named for his black left ear. He was initiated early into the
hunting ranks and showed the grit and game of a true Dogo at a very young age.
One of his first trips out into the woods he learned what a pack of Javelina was
all about. He wasn't even a year old at that time, but he jumped right in when
the dogs caught the first one. Since Javeline have a tendency to stick together
and assist each other in times of danger, they are not something we like to
encounter in the woods with catch dogs on the ground. To a Dogo, they are just
another "hog" and they catch them and hold them until we get there. Lefty was
still holding one when I got into the thicket and another Javeline ran at him
from behind and cut him in a rather exposed and private area before I knew what
happened. A couple of the other guys got there about that time and we were able
to get things under control fairly quickly, but there were several Dogos
requiring a suture or two.
I hunted with Lefty many times and he was a fearless warrior to say the
least, but of all the hunts I was on with him, it's his first that I remember
the most. I don't remember if I even had a camera with me that night and even if
I did, I would not likely have had time take any photos. I was to worried about
getting the Dogos out of there in one piece.
