Romeo was selected to be one of our future stud dogs and to carry
on the blood of Gringa and Zulu. He served us very well in that capacity as
well as in the woods. Had two litters and caught many hogs in his day.
He was more than just a good friend and hunting companion . . . He was a great mentor for young pups . . . He was a friend to
everyone he met, old and young, large and small. He never met a stranger
and never forgot a friend. Romeo was just one of those special souls that
you feel lucky to have ever known.
In a small way I feel bad that I never took him to another show so he
could earn his championship title. He took three out of four individual
shows at the only dog show I ever entered him in and he was only 7 months
old at the time. He worked like a dream in the ring and had less than a
week of training prior to the show. However, Dog Shows are not exactly my
cuppa tea, so while our one experience was a good one . . . we never
pursued that area any further.
I have owned many dogs in my life and
loved all of them and they were each great in their own way, but there was
just something a little extra special about Romeo that made him stand head
and shoulders above the rest. He only had to be shown something or told
once and he had it figured out for life. It was as if he understood
perfect English.
I could go on about him for hours, and have several times when someone
asks me about him. I feel fortunate to have had the pleasure to enjoy his
company for nearly twelve years. He was more than anyone could ever ask
for in an all around great dog.
